Outdoor Classrooms
An outdoor classroom is a free-standing covered structure that gives you a permanent, all-weather space for forest-school lessons, group work and assemblies out in the grounds, away from the main building.
View outdoor classroomsA school canopy is a roofed structure fixed to your building that turns the space by a door, dining hall or classroom into dry, shaded, all-weather space you can use every day of the year.

A school canopy (also called a wall-mounted or straight-wall canopy) is a steel-framed, roofed structure bolted to the face of your building. It shelters the area immediately outside a door, cloakroom, dining hall or classroom, creating covered space without the cost of a full extension.
Because it is attached to the building, a canopy is the most cost-effective way to add daily-use covered space: sheltered thresholds that stop rain being walked inside, dining overspill at lunchtime, a dry line-up point at the start of the day, or covered outdoor play for early years. We handle structural calculations, planning where it is needed, groundworks and installation.

Wall-mounted canopies earn their keep at the busy edges of a school: early-years doors where coats and buggies need shelter, dining halls that need covered overspill, cloakroom and entrance thresholds, and covered play just outside the classroom. Fixing to the building keeps the footprint small and the price down.
Where you need cover away from a wall, a free-standing outdoor classroom or gazebo is the answer; to link two buildings, a covered walkway. We often combine a canopy with new wet pour or artificial grass beneath it so the whole area is dry, safe and usable.
A roofed threshold keeps rain and strong sun off the busiest doors, so the space works in all weathers.
Steel frames are designed to wind and snow loads with full structural calculations and planning support where required.
Sized to your wall, eaves height and doorways, in colours matched to your school.
Powder-coated steel and polycarbonate roofing shrug off the weather with minimal maintenance.
Many wall-mounted canopies fall under permitted development, but larger structures or those close to a boundary can need planning permission. We assess this for your site and, where needed, prepare and submit the application.
A typical wall-mounted canopy is installed in a few days once the groundworks and fixings are complete. We programme the works around term times and the school day to keep disruption to a minimum.
Frames are powder-coated in any RAL colour to match your school, and roofs are usually clear, opal or tinted polycarbonate to balance daylight with UV and glare control.
Yes. Canopies are guttered and drained so rainwater is carried away from doorways and walkways rather than dropping across the threshold.

Shade sails are tensioned fabric canopies that add colourful, cost-effective UV protection over sandpits, seating and early-years areas — the lightest, brightest way to get shade into a playground.

A covered walkway is a roofed link between two points on a school site — building to building, gate to entrance, or classroom to dining hall — so pupils and staff stay dry on the routes they use most.

Outdoor seating and picnic benches give children somewhere to eat, talk and rest — from robust picnic tables and buddy benches to shaded seating built into a canopy or gazebo.

An outdoor stage or storytelling area gives children a place to perform, present and gather — a raised deck for performances or a circle of seating around a focal point for stories, assemblies and group talk.
