A school canopy (also called a wall-mounted or straight-wall canopy) is a steel-framed, roofed structure bolted to the face of your building. It shelters the area immediately outside a door, cloakroom, dining hall or classroom, creating covered space without the cost of a full extension.
Because it is attached to the building, a canopy is the most cost-effective way to add daily-use covered space: sheltered thresholds that stop rain being walked inside, dining overspill at lunchtime, a dry line-up point at the start of the day, or covered outdoor play for early years. Do I need planning permission for a school canopy?
Many wall-mounted canopies fall under permitted development, but larger structures or those close to a boundary can need planning permission. We assess this for your site and, where needed, prepare and submit the application.
How long does it take to install a canopy?
A typical wall-mounted canopy is installed in a few days once the groundworks and fixings are complete. We programme the works around term times and the school day to keep disruption to a minimum.
What colour and roof options are there?
Frames are powder-coated in any RAL colour to match your school, and roofs are usually clear, opal or tinted polycarbonate to balance daylight with UV and glare control.
