Wet pour is the seamless, poured-in-place rubber surface you see in most modern playgrounds: smooth, colourful, wheelchair-friendly and specified to the exact fall height your equipment needs.
What it is
Wet Pour Rubber Safety Surfacing
Wet pour (also called poured rubber, rubberised surfacing or EPDM) is a two-layer rubber safety surface mixed and laid on site. A shock-absorbing base of recycled rubber is topped with a hard-wearing coloured wearing course of EPDM granules, then trowelled into a smooth, seamless finish.
Because the base-layer thickness sets the Critical Fall Height, wet pour can be specified to protect equipment of almost any height, from low toddler units to tall climbing towers, all tested to BS EN 1177. It is the most popular school playground surface for good reason: safe, accessible and endlessly customisable.

Where wet pour works best
Wet pour suits almost any play area, but it comes into its own where you want a clean, colourful, accessible finish: under and around fixed play equipment, on early-years and nursery areas, along daily-mile trails, and anywhere wheelchairs, walking frames or buggies need a smooth, level route.
Colours and inlaid designs are mixed on site, so you can build number grids, roadways, hopscotch, your school logo or a bespoke graphic straight into the surface. Where a quicker or easily-repairable install is needed, pre-formed rubber safety tiles are a practical alternative that we also supply and fit.

Wet Pour Rubber: common questions
How long does wet pour last?
A professionally installed wet pour surface typically lasts 8 to 12 years or more with routine care. Colours are UV-stable, and worn or damaged areas can be patched or resurfaced to extend its life.
How thick does wet pour need to be?
Thickness is set by the fall height it must protect against, usually 15mm to 100mm or more. The taller the equipment, the deeper the shock-absorbing base we install beneath the coloured wearing course.
Can you lay wet pour over existing tarmac?
Yes, in most cases. Sound tarmac or concrete makes an ideal base. If the existing surface is cracked or uneven we will advise on repairs or a new sub-base first.
Is wet pour safe and slip-resistant?
Yes. Wet pour has a textured, slip-resistant finish and absorbs impact to protect against falls, which is why it is the standard surface for school and nursery play areas.
